My Writing Groups

When we are dreaming alone it is only a dream. When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality.
— Dom Helder Camara

When I began writing, it was a solitary journey.  I loved creating characters engaged in a completely imaginary life.  But it wasn’t until I became a finalist in RWA’s 2010 Golden Heart® contest that I finally found writing friends.  My Unsinkables became an extended family—especially the MargaRITAs, my YA finalists.  Soon after that, I became a member of WRW, the local RWA chapter, and found further writing friends and bloggers, the Waterworld Mermaids.

I also started blogging regularly on Honestly YA, a group blog with other YA writers.  And I was perfectly content.  Until 2013 when I discovered I was once again a finalist in the Golden Heart®.  Then I opened up my writer’s circle to include the Lucky 13s, and by extension, the Savvy Sevens, my YA finalists. I've recently acquired fellow 2014 Golden Heart finalists, and we've already become a close-knit group--partly because there are only thirty-five of us this year.

I’ve been so privileged to know such a wonderful circle of writers.   A circle of friends.
